Here, there, and over there in Spanish
There are three realtive locations in Spanish, "aquí" (here), "ahí" (there), and "allí" (there or over there).
"Aquí" means "here" (relative to all parties) (¡Aquí está! - Here it is!)
"Acá" means "here" (relative to the speaker) (Ven acá - Come right here where I am)
"Ahí" which means "there" can be used to speak of an object or action that is close to the person being spoken to.
"Allí" is roughly the equivalent of "there" or "over there" can be used to speak of an object that is distant from both the speaker and the person being spoken to.
Notes:
- In some parts of Latin America, you may hear "acá" for "here" and allá for "over there," instead of, or in addition to "aquí", "allí", and "ahi". You may also find some subtle variations in how these terms are used in different regions.
- You can memorize the use of these words in order from he tclosest to the farthest: aquí (aca), ahi, and allí (allá).
- In most situations, "acá" is synonymous with "aquí", and you will find that some countries use "acá" more frequently, while some Spanish speakers exclusively use aquí.
- "Allí" and "ahí" can sound similar in regions where the ll sound is softened and often translated the same in English. You should be careful not to confuse them.

Así no se hacen las cosas acá - That's not how we do things here
Como siempre ahí - I always eat there
¿Hay alguien allí? - Is someone there?
La torta está allá - The cake is over there
Desde allí puede ver el lago - From there you can see the lake
- Aquí and Acá usually appear with este, esta, estos, estas (this/these) to refer to things physically or psychologically close to the speaker.

- Ahí and Allí usually appear with ese, esa, esos, esas (that/those) to refer to things not too far away physically or psychologically.
For examples:
Ese libro ahí/allí - That book there
Esos libros ahí/allí - Those books there
- Allá often appear with aquel, aquella, aquellos, aquellas (that/those) to refer to things physically or psychologically far away from the speaker, and the hearer (if there is one).
For examples:
Aquel libro allá - That book (way over) there
Aquellos libros allá - Those books (way over) there
