Write the date in Spanish

Long-form

When you write the full form of the date, remember to spell out the month and use numerical values (cardinal numbers for the day and year. Separate different elements of the date with "de" which means "of" in English. Besides, the date should be written with the day before the month.

See: Numbers in Spanish from 1 to 100

For example:

3 de octubre de 2010 - third of October of 2010

Note:

  • Unlike in English, you don't have to capitalize the name of the month in Spanish. The month should be lower-case.
  • Use "primero" (first) when writing the first of the month. For example, primero de enero - January 1st

Short form

When using the short form of the date, all elements are represented by numerical values. Use day, month, year format and separate each element with a period instead of "de"

For example: 3.10.2010

Note:

  • Use a "1" followed by a superscripted "o" (1º) to write the first of the month with a numeral.
